MEDA support for Pyrolysis Project Karak Star
As announced on 7 July by Jordan Valley Links - مشروع روابط وادي الاردن - An agreement signing ceremony held today between MEDA and Karak Star Recycling company.
Under this agreement MEDA will support installation of a pyrolysis line that will generate about 1300 metric tons of fuel from plastic waste. This intervention will also help Karak Star to produce one million of egg trays monthly at a revenue over JOD 400,000 annually.
Karak Star will be engaging 10 - 11 women NGOs with total 780 members from Jordan Valley to overlook storage areas for mulch plastic in preparation for weekly pick up. Karak Star would be expanding outreach to landfills of Karak, Jordan Valley, Madaba & Tafila to purchase annually 1700 metric tons of waste plastic. In addition, landfills contractors will be educated on the sorting of different types of plastics (PP, PE, PET, etc.) and it would be an extra income for them to sell such plastic.
This is an exciting and innovative approach for waste management and to combat negative impact on environment in a productive and profitable fashion.
